Article of the week

Bingo Cards Part I

Bingo cards used in the USA & Canada and UK vary not only in the amount of numbers printed on them but also in the fact that in America we play the game with 75 balls and in the UK they do it with 90.

American and Canadian cards usually have 5 rows and 5 columns, the number in the middle is ‘free’ so each card has 24 numbers printed on it. Cards are sold separately in the USA whereas in the UK and Australia they come in groups of 6, or 10, known as ‘tickets’ in a ‘book.’ Each bingo ticket has 9 columns and 3 rows, but only contains 15 numbers: 5 per row and the rest are blank spaces.

In the traditional 10 ticket book, each bingo ticket is usually colored differently. A ‘multiple book’ contains six books. Each page has 6 tear-apart bingo cards of the same color. A single page of 6 cards is sometimes called a ‘flyer.’ To be continued...
